I know people will tell me just fill out the truth, but I would like to know if, IF in the application I fill out "single" while I am already married, will they do a background check for my personal information, how likely are they going to do that? And if it gets caught, would it be a "huge" offence??

Reason for thinking about "lying": we were secretly married and don't want parents to know it.

Then, if I do fill out "married", the marital status wouldn't be displayed anywhere on the passport would it? thx

Don't know for sure but I know these days they are pretty picky about details like that.

Just write down the truth on the application. Nowhere on a Canadian Passport does it say if you are married or not. It just has your name, where you were born, your birthdate etc
