Too many things really.

I was worried that all the changes they made would take a lot longer to gel, but surprisingly they haven't.

I think the additions of Kimmo Timonen and Jason Smith on D (both former captains) have solidified the D with experience.

Similarly, the addition of Lupul, Hartnell, and Briere up front, combined with the continued improivment of Carter and Richards..............added to the stability provided by Kapanen, Knuble, and Gagne.

Biron has been to a Stanley Cup final as well (99 with Buffalo) so he's a hardened veteran that adds stability to the netminding situation. I think the only thing Niittymaki is guilty of is too many vowels in his name.

All in all, their chemistry has come together quicker than I expected.

The coach had the advantage of being the top dog in training camp as opposed to last season when he took over about a month into the season. Starting the season on the road seems to have helped.
