I just got involved with a program called People to People that sends kids around the world to learn hands on about different cultures. I've never been out of the country, or the state for that matter, and suddenly I have an opportunity to go to France, Italy, and Greece to learn all about their way of life there. So I REALLY want to go. But first I have to raise six thousand dollars and before June! I'm just about to turn thirteen and I'm not really sure how to raise that much money... Please does anyone have any suggestions? I *really really* want to go! I've read the description of the trip and there's so many amazing things I get to see and do and I will learn SO much. I understand there's things like babysitting and lawn mowing and such, but I don't know how to get set up with those jobs and I need to raise like a thousand a month... what should I do??? Thank you so much for helping!

People to People is a great program, and you should do whatever you can to try to raise alot of the money. It's deffinately worth every bit of the cost, even though it is alot. It's hard to raise all of it. First I would try to see how much you can get in donations from family and friends. I did People to People and had to raise half. It's good to try to get a part time job and save around half of each paycheck you get and put it towards your tuition. Also, go to www.fundingyoureducation.com. It is a website created by People to People which gives you great ideas for fundraising your tuition. When thinking about how much you need to raise, don't forget about spending money! You'll probably spend quite a bit, so I'd try to save at least $1,000 for spending. Good luck & have fun!

My daughter got tapped for this too. I spoke with the organizers, and when I made them answer me honestly, they said they had never heard of anyone raising more than half the money; their parents/grandparents/whomever put up the other half.

I think People to People is a good organization, but I also think it's a bit pricey. I know people involved in scouting--last year I interviewed a recipient of the Gold Award in Girl Scouts (interviewed for college) who had gone to Australia and Greece. She really was able to earn the money herself, with her troop's help. And there are affiliated organizations in every country that host when you go over there. Her experiences sounded every bit as good as P2P. If you wanted to organize a troop to do this, it would be a matter of finding a few like-minded young ladies and approaching your local council.

I wish you luck with the fund raising. If you really feel you can do it, give it a go and don't give up. Just don't let your grades suffer either.

Try by getting a free fundraising kit from various websites. It's a great way to learn more about the fundraising options they offer. With the right information and the right tools they can help you make your next fundraiser a success. All fundraising groups are going to have to sell their items to generate money. Everyone starts with selling to mom and dad then moves on to friends. The more successful the campaign means the more people you will actually have to talk to. Here are a collection of sales tips you can use to help you while you are raising funds. - Have fun and enjoy what you are doing. It is not necessary to have a canned speech and perform it by memory. You can talk to people and have fun with your campaign, the donors will pick up on this and sales will increase. - Be honest while making the rounds for sales. You are a representative of your school group. - People do not want to be told what to do. Your job is to make people feel good about donating to your school group. - When you get a no, don’t take it personally. The donors are not saying they don’t like you; they just may not care for the product or have the money available at the time. - For people who are nervous about selling a little preparation is key. By practicing your sales talk it will bring confidence. Again the goal is not to recite something word for word but to talk about your fundraising campaign with confidence. It might sound a little funny but try role-playing if selling is an issue with you. Spend time with people rehearsing just talking and getting past an objection or two. - Avoid hard selling. There is no need to be pushy while fundraising. People like to help out and also enjoy buying. You may even be able to offer them the chance to show up to school to check out the new equipment, or the new uniforms for the baseball team. By being friendly and a good representative you just might pick up new volunteers along the way. - If possible get a booth or a table in a high traffic area. Places like malls or local events. This will get you lots of traffic and potential donors that you can approach. These sales tips are good for whatever sales you might find yourself in. You might even consider these tips good advice for talking to people and relating. Remember interacting with people will serve you better than just about any learned skill taught. A little preparation with these tips will insure that your fundraising campaign is both fun and profitable.

i had an oportunity when i was in hs to do a similar trip. what i did was i got some help from some of my teacher who helped me develop a presentation to show at church dinners, grange meetings etc etc. i also directly asked for dontations from teachers and community leaders. the co that i was associated with took care of all of the legal stuff, taxes etc. i had to keep track of who gave me what and had to have the checks made out to the co. all of the funds were put into my account and when i had met the financial requirements any other money that i raised was for my use on the trip.
