Yes, as long as you go in with a positive attitude. At the audition, when you are waiting, introduce yourself. Be perky, "Hi, my name is.... Is this your first show?.... What grade are you in..." You know, chat. If they seem distant or preoccupied, don't take it personally - they are nervous about the audition. If they are then say "Nice to have met you. Talk to you later." and move on. Don't go up to everyone and say "Oh, I'm so nervous... blah blah blah" People won't want to accept you then. Everyone is nervous. You are all in the same boat. You all have a shot at the roles. Just remember that. So just as I said, be outgoing and enthusiastic.

As for the preparation, more than likely there will be nothing for you to do before hand. Ask the director if you will need anything prepared for the audition (like I said the answer will probably be no) But if it is yes, then find a monologue. Memorize it (get a friend or a parent to help you with this) and then act it out. That means, have inflection in your voice, move around and add some hand gestures that coincide with the words. Most importantly get into the character and act natural.
But, you probably won't have to do that. Instead the director will probably be doing a cold reading. This is when s/he will had you and several other people a script and assign you parts. You will have a couple minutes, if that much to go over it and then you will have to read it aloud as your character. So, really unless you can get a copy of the script before hand to read the entire script there is nothing you can do to prepare because you don't know what you will be assigned to read. But neither does anyone else - its hard for everyone. If this is the case my best advice is to relax. If you get nervous then you may stumble your words, loose your place, or sound robotic. Just have fun with it.

Go out there and try your best! You won't regret it.

I've been in 16 school plays ( i love acting) and i had to try out for it everytime. All you have to do is read the script and choose a character you want to be then put yourself in the character's place and situation. You'll probably get a part in the play (most people usually do) but i dont know if it'll be the lead role or whatever your looking for. Have fun and don't be nervous!

1. choose a character that you wanted to play

2. read the whole script or lines that they had provided twice and remember it.

3. understand it

4. think how does this character acts and try to feel it. (do some homework on this character)

5. get into the character and practice the line with feelings and voice tones ( you don't want it to sound flat do you?)
and oh, get someone more experience to practice with you like your mom or dad or a friend.

6. if you don't understand how to act ask your senior or drama(?) teacher (the one who conducts the play)

7. get ready to be auditioned!
