G'day,

And they think that food science & food tech is all about cooking :(

I do know that living cost is much more expensive in Japan. Now it depends on where do you want to work after you finish your Masters course. If you want to work & stay in Australia, then study in Australia. If you are thinking of Japan, then study in Japan.

There are only 42 (soon to be 43) universities in Australia, all of them are fully accredited and they are tightly regulated, therefore the quality and recognition of their graduates are equal from wherever university you are studying from. The most important thing is you have to READ the course information carefully, since some courses may have the same name but different content.

There are quite alot of Australian universities offering food sci or food tech courses to international students. I suggest you to go to Dept of Education, Science and Technology (http://cricos.dest.gov.au) and IDP Education Australia website (www.idp.edu.au) online databases. The information abt fees & requirements can be found in the university's website. Please make sure that you access the information for internationals students, since some requirements, application form and fees are different than Australians'.

Once decided on the uni, fill in the application form and send it together with certified copy of your academic qualification. Depending on your country of origin, you may also need to submit an IELTS test results for proof of your English proficiency (www.ielts.org)

Living cost... Sydney and Canberra have the highest living cost, followed by Melbourne & Brisbane, then Perth, Darwin, Adelaide & Tasmania the lowest. I am attaching a weblink from one of the uni in Melbourne as an indication.

Hope this helps. Good luck for your study and welcome to Australia :)

Australia and Japan are both pretty big! You may want to check out specific places and schools first, to narrow it down.

Japan. You'll need to learn a difficult language. They have unique foods and cooking styles.

Australia. The speak English. My impression is that their foods and cooking methods are similiar to the US and to Britain.

Where you study really all depends on your personality and the type of things you like to do. Here's a great article that will help you choose a place:

Research it more but in my opinion, go for Japan. Japan is exotic. Think about it, you probally haven't heard of an Australian cook. I mean, you might have but it's not as common. Japan sounds more exotic.
