inept or inapt
An inept remark is an absurd or clumsy one: He said a few inept words by way of an introduction (they were not well chosen). An inapt remark is an inappropriate one: He mumbled an inapt apology (it was not adequate for the occasion).

Inept is an alternative rock band from Chicago, Illinois. Since the band formed in 2002, they have released several CDs (only Say Goodbye To This is still in production), and are set to release their first full length album in early 2008. Strong promotion, a rigorous touring schedule, and supporting countless national and international acts has caused Inept to evolve into one of the most well known and tightest live acts in the entire Midwest.

No Idea Of Inapt!

Both mean to be clumsy, however, INEPT also conveys incompetence that INAPT does not convey.

Inept means like...you can't do it because you're incompetant. Inapt means you're not especially qualified to do something, or that you're unlikely to do it. Not necessarily that you're incompetant.
