I think a lot of people actually mean to say "I couldn't care less" but instead they say "I could care less". I couldn't care less means they just don't care at all. I could care less would mean, someone must have cared a little because there is a chance to care less. It's a bit confusing. :)

Usually, when a person says" I could care less" he or she is not interested in the subject or giving you an answer or just totally indifferent to become involved. Sometimes it is a way of covering ignorance when asked a question to which he /she doesn't know the answer.

The correct thing to say is, "I couldn't care less." However, many people have a tendency to let words fall out of their heads without thinking. Thus, the saying has degenerated to the incorrect form, "I could care less."

It means they're being lazy in speech. The actual phrase is, "I couldn't care less," meaning "I care so little (about the subject being discussed) that it is not possible for me to care less about it than I already do."

I think it is a sarcastic phrase because when some one says "i could care less" it means they don't really give much into the matter.

To care less, means to care less. Opposite of care more.

The are mis-using the phrase. They SHOULD say, "I couldn't care less. " That makes sense, because it means they care very very little. When they say, "I could care less," they are not making correct sense. Unless they really mean, "I could care less, but I don't care, so who cares?" LOL

"i couldn't care less" means they don't care because they don't care to the lowest level so they couldn't care LESS. get it? it's kind of confusing, i'm not sure how to explain it but basically the person doesn't care

I would say whoever said that meant it because obviously they could care less about what was being said to them
