I want to deposit a large sum of money into a safe deposit box at my bank. Other than not collecting interest, what are some other reasons this would not be a good idea? Thanks.

If you lose the key, you'll have a hard time. If you die, your heirs may have a lot of explaining to do.

And the lose of interest is a huge mistake that you should avoid.

you might want to move it offshore. depending on how large the sum is. our economy is hanging on by a thread for one, also in case anyone wants to pry into your business or life- the bank can open the box if there is a rt order. those are easy to get if your being sued or if your on a law enf. hot list. doesnt take much- piss somebody off and you lose it all. be careful.

to off set the first three answers you could always go to a bond warehouse and rent space which will serve the same purpose!!!
