Q. 1. Okay first off will you guys tell my parents how badly we need a new computer? We have a virus scanner that says we have 14,000 viruses, our computer has a 20gb hard drive, and it only has 126mb of RAM, and We got in the middle of the year 2000. (PLEASE do not say that we don't need a new computer because WE DO!)

The following applies to the questions below:
I want 2GB of RAM, probably want Windows XP unless someone convinces me out of it, do NOT want an apple (I would want one but my parents would always be confused), and I want to be able to play games like halo, call of duty, and battlefield 2 on it.

Q. 2. What kind of processor and graphics card would I need to be able to play games like the ones listed?

Q. 3. What company will give me the most bang for my buck? I've been looking at a Dell XPS but am flexible.

Q. 4. Do you think I should get a Logitech Revolution mouse, or is it not worth the $99.99? If i were to get a good one that would be it.

Q. 5. Other suggestions?

Ok , MOST important PART of the computer IS the processor : Get AT LEAST dual-Core , 2gb ram , Graphics cards , 128mb i wouldn't recommend , Get at least 256mb , maybeeeeeeee 8500gt or 8600gts, great cards , and common $100 for a mouse? not worth it at all , wanna get a good mouse , u can spend $50 at most , unless your rich , might as well get the best computer out there. AND YES THE COMPUTER YOU HAVE NOW , IS BADDDDDDDDDDD ,VERY VERY BAD...., you can always build your own computer , it's not that hard , google it or youtube it , i'm pretty sure you can do it , and you can come back and ask more questions if you had any problems with building it , thats what i did .. :) Good Luck

Dear Jessica's mom and dad.

I am a college tutor in Malaysia (somewhere in south east asia). To be frank, the computer you are using right now is far too old even in a 3rd world country like Malaysia. 20GB hard drive + 128mb Memory wouldn't help much these days. I know it from my experience. For educational purposes, you would want to install the latest Microsoft Office for ur daughter to do her assignment and homework. Added to the OS (windows XP) installation and file paging, it already consume 1/4 of your hard drive and eat up most of the memory which render the PC to almost to a very slow donkey-like speed. And thats just the basic. What if someday ur daughter goes into college and learn the dotNET tech,MathCAD,Autocad, or anything else that require more processig power.. U guys surely want ur daughter to excel in her class so a computer upgrade is inevitable. The next issue is mobility. Laptop will prove useful in college years compared to desktop. it is not an utmost issue but u can consider it.

About specs required, it is up to u guys to do surveys.. The one suggested by your daughter is quite powerful but tech change so fast.. in 2 or 3 years it will be almost obsolete.. too much factor to consider but think of your budget.

Christmas is coming.. A new laptop under that christmas tree would a good suprise.. (err.. did i spoils it)..

Depends really on your budget. But here you go. I would also hold off for about 6 months, nvidia announced new chipsets for sli (connecting 2 vid cards together), but boards won't be out for at least 6-9 months. If you are only looking at having 1 video card, don't worry about what I said. Also if you are looking for a gaming machine, stock machine aren't so hot, gotta go build it yourself.

CPU: Intel quad-Core QX6850
MB: Asus maximus Formula
RAM: 4 GB of RAM DDR2 1066 (PC8500)
Vid Card: EVGA 8800 GTX or Ultra

XP is still a good bet, but some games will play better on Vista simply because of Dx10.

Get a big case with lots of airflow and you may want to think about water-cooling.

With these suggestions you can play jsut about any game on max settings.

You can find a nice PC with 2gigs of Ram a Duel core processor and a 250gig HD for $400 or under. Dell is great if you really want a deal look at www.dell.com/outlet.

YOUR PC SUCKS......just so you know....I did not think you could get online with junk like that.
