If he left all of his assets to the children it is hard to say. Need to know where you live. These things vary by state and country. It also depends on if you live in a place where marital assets are also yours or are they just the mans. If you live in the US apply for his Social Security for the children. What does the will say about you? Please give some more information. If the will was read by his lawyer you should be able to ask him about some things.

"the will stated that all of his assets must be divide in five equal shares to the children. " Where does it say the wife was mentioned? She gets zip, nada, zero, nothing.

If the husband dies all of his estate needs to go to the wife to help her bring up the five children. If she dies then it is divided between the five children.

It depends on the state laws, how old the children are, and the dollar value of the estate. His estate would not automatically include any property they owed jointly.

None. If he wanted it divided into 5 for the children, she doesn't get any.
