I agree with Crow T Robot as well. There are times when it backfires due to feminists and womens rights. They need to learn JUST cause a guy offers a hand, they don't think the woman is weak.
Alot of it has to do with parenting nowadays. Most parents don't TRY to teach thier children right from wrong, look at all the children who are in gangs. Proper parenting would change the world. I for one am teaching my child right from wrong. Like your mother did. She seems like a wonderful person.

I was on a bus once and a guy in one of the front seats just collapsed onto the floor and lay there motionless. The bus driver called an ambulence and waited for it to arrive. People on the bus simply stepped over the guy and walked out the door. One or two people bent over him to ask "Are you okay?" but getting no response, just walked on out. So I guess, yes, chivalry is dead in many ways though I do hear lots of stories of good samaritans doing things for complete strangers. The United States is the most charitable country on earth with $300 billion dollars being donated annually. So you'll hear alot of bad and good stories in our society, its not just either or.

I always lend a hand when I see that a hand needs to be lent. But people are not always like that. There is also the diffusion of responsibility sometimes, where no one on the scene really feels it is their "job." I usually find that the most helpful people in life are people who have compassion for others, which is usually learned in the school of hard knocks, unfortunately.

Chivalry was rare for the most part but many past civilizations promoted it, and others were selfish. These days it's basically at so little of an amount, it's unknown of. Yet, it's still around.

Chivalry is quite uncommon these days. There are not many people who will hold the door open for me. Also, lots of people lack common courtesy while driving.

Chivalry is certainly not dead, just not as common as it once was years and years ago!
It's rare but it does exist! Good for you and God bless you for helping out others!

I think the younger generations are not as attentive as we once were. But, just like you, there's are still a lot of nice people out there, it's just harder to find them.
