Magma contains gasses that separate from the molton rock as it nears the surface. There are many different volcanic gasses. Sulfur dioxide combines with water to produce an acid. Volcanic chlorine gas produces hydrochloric acid. Below is a link to a good article on volcanic gasses.

There are high amounts of sulfur present in a volcano. This can percolate into the ground water which drains into a nearby lake.

It´s the sulfur, or rather, the sulfurus oxides. SO, SO2 and SO3. Combined with water they become acids of various strength sulphuric acid, or H2SO4, being the strongest.
