I have a home network using an SMC Wireless Router. Currently I have two computers that connect to it. I want to make the network Secure so that no one else can connect unless they have a password.

My question is... when I log into the Router using the 168.192... web address... Do I want to password protect it (Set a password to restrict management access to the Wireless Barricade) or Encrypt it (The Wireless Barricade can be quickly configured as a wireless access point for roaming clients by setting the access identifier and channel number. It also supports data encryption and client filtering).

Both require different passwords, so I'm unsure which is the one I want to lock. Thanks!

For wireless you want encryption enabled, but you also want a password on the router so that others can't easily change your settings. You need BOTH.

One for the management of the router and one for the wireless users.

If you just want wireless protection just set the Encryption password.for data encryption.
hope that helps

instead of this, i suggest getting network magic, which makes it easy to do this all. get it from networkmagic.com. install it, and make sure you set it up on a computer that is wired to the router. then it should ask you to secure your network. put in a key and follow the steps.

or do this.

when everything is settled, and the program is fully working, go to tools, and wireless protection. enable network lock, and in the encryption tab, put in a key
