You can get attention with a question. Ex.: have you ever wanted to be a vice president or president? i'm ganna tell you how Al gore made this dream to be true..." or something like this// in this case you don't have to wait for any answer))

I think you should use your own statement. Don't use a quote, that is very cliche. Think about the info you've gathered about him and a single statement that ties it all in together. Maybe there was an event in his life that shaped his views; you could start off your paper with the occurrence of this event through his eyes. A final suggestion would be to start it off with a metaphor that is like to his life and achievements.
