I bought a 2000 kia sephia a couple of months ago. And I haven't been able to drive it due to me not having insurance on it, and in the state that I live in you have to have insurance before you can get plates and tags on your car. And a couple of weeks ago I turned the car on and was listening to a cd. Well I keep the cd playing and turned the car off. And then I tried to start it a couple of days ago and it wouldn't start. A friend of mine jumped it for me and turned on, but when I turned it off like thirty mintues later it wouldn't start up again. And now it's like if I get it jumped it will start but right after I turned the car off, it doesn't start back up. Any ideas on what the problem could be? Please help. Thanks!

For your safety you should buy an new one $75-125, you don't want to be stranded anywhere.

When a battery is a few years old, it starts to wear out, but your engine will still turn over and start. Every time you start your car, it really takes a lot of power from your battery. However, every time you drive your car for a long period (20 min+) it will boost the power in the battery, not to the fullest, but if the liquids in there are good, it can last for 15 years. If you stop and go ( and turn on and off and especially axillary stuff like CD) it really sucks down the power. It may have been too weak to turn over the engine, you could try driving on the freeway to charge it, but it's not a sure thing. The jump you got made the engine turn over, but didn't charge it more. If money is an issue right now, drive it for an hour straight, but buy some jumper cables just in case.

Well that depends on how long you left the car running after you had it jump started. If you don't let it run long enough then it will not charge the battery. try jump starting it again leave it run for 30 to 45 min. if it will not start after that then carefully take the top off the battery and fill the cells with water but be careful battery acid will severely burn you. then try to jump it again. if it still will not hold a charge after that then you need to buy a new battery if you still have problems after that then you need to have you alternator tested, your battery only starts the car then your alternator takes over if it is bad then it will not recharge the battery the way it should.

Jump the battery one more time and let it run for an hour. Don't run your tunes at the same time. Just let it run. Stop it then start it. if it doesn't start then start shopping. That battery is seven years old. Buying a new one would be a good start. If you have no idea who owned the car before you, you have no idea how the car was kept. If it's not the battery it could be the alternator the piece of equipment that recharges your battery once the car has been started. Battery's $ 100.00, alternators can $250.00 installed. Good luck!!

The problem is defiantly your battery. You have a few options here. You could go to sears walmart (not recommended) your local auto parts store or someplace like interstate batteries and get a new one. Or you could go to a gas station and have them charge it. A battery even if jump started will still be dead because the alternator does not charge the battery it just holds the charge at a certain voltage and gives more power to the car if needed. Most likely you will have to replace your battery and thats probably the easiest option for you.

Hope this helps

Have the car jump-started again... Let it run for a long while... More than 30 minutes. If you shut it off and it does not start again... It could be a few bad cells in the battery but consider a new alternator as well.

Yes It sounds like U need a new battery. Also be careful about jump starting. It could burn your altenator up. If someone could let u use their battery to check if it would start your car that would be a better answer. Once running any Advance Auto Parts store or Auto Zone would test your electrical system with no charge!

Sounds to me like you have a bad battery from the symptoms you give. Replace it. Once you get your insurance and tags on the car, take it back to the place you bought it and ask them to do a charging system test to be sure that the alternator is working properly. I hope this helps , Good luck

Try cleaning the battery terminals. Most likely oxidized from lack of use and recharge the battery
