In my family, we stay up all night on Christmas Eve, and when it strikes midnight, we all open our presents. We usually have a Christmas party at Christmas Eve night with our neighbours, all until Christmas morning.
My parents buy for everyone and during the party, we buy extra presents within a budget (e.g. $10) and we exchange presents. We write a number on the gifts (wrapper, of course) and we draw lots to see who gets which present. This is very common in the Philippines, but it is also common elsewhere.
I do not have kids (I'm just 13 going on 14) but I am a Christian and I will never tell anyone there's a Santa Claus, because I believe that there's no such Santa Claus who gives everyone presents. However, I believe that there are many good people who do things for the cause of charity.
Just some extra info, Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ into Earth in a physical body, but he was not born on Dec 25. He was born in Bethlehem, Israel. According to the Bible, when Jesus was born, there were shepherds outside tending to their sheep/animals. If it were Dec.25 then, the animals and the shepherds would have frozen to death if they were outside. Everyone would have stayed indoors. Therefore, Christmas must have been at around October or some other date. It is celebrated now at Dec25 because of the Romans. Long time ago, before the Romans converted to Christianity, they had many festivals. When they converted, they did not want to stop celebrating these, and so, they gave them other names in celebration with events in the Bible, for example, Christmas, Easter and many others.
Merry Christmas to you and to all! And God bless all of us!

Yeah, I open presents with my immediate family or my boyfriend's, depending on where we are. We buy for everyone in our family. I have a list of like 30 people I have to buy for, but I love giving Christmas presents, especially when I can be there to watch them open the presents. And I don't have kids, but when I do, I plan on telling them Santa is real.

I open presents from my siblings on Christmas Eve, but open presents from "Santa" on Christmas morning. As for buying presents, the five kids, including me, buy for my parents and 1 other sibling which we pick from a hat. We used to buy for everyone, but thought it was expensive buying 6 presents instead of 3. My parents told me there was a Santa and I will probably tell my kids there is a Santa when I have children too. Hope I helped! Merry Early Christmas!

Here is the letter we sent in December 2005. Since then, many of the recipients have done the same.
Dear Family, Friends and Co-workers (who, of course, are also Friends),
You are receiving this message because we have regularly or occasionally exchanged holiday or seasonal gifts. This past year has been exceptionally horrendous for so many people in our community, our country and our world. Lives have been devastated by hurricanes, tsunami and earthquake. Heating costs have tripled. Prescription prices are obscene. Gas and grocery prices are eating people alive, even those whose salaries were adequate (if barely) only a couple years ago. When you’re on a low or fixed income, how do you decide whether to feed your family, buy medicine or heat your home?
We realize that we cannot solve all of these problems, but it feels wrong to exchange gifts, however loving and thoughtful, that are not needed. We have decided to use the money we would have spent on holiday presents to do what we can to help where it is truly needed. We will be thinking of every one of you as we do so.
Our giving this year will be to the UU Service Committee and the Red Cross to determine where they most need it, as well as to local agencies, such as Church Community Services and the Salvation Army to help ease hunger and want in our community. (We learned just this morning that the Salvation Army has already run out of funds to help with home heating costs.)
Not that we assume you were planning to give us anything, but if you were, please do so by contributing, in any way that feels right to you, to help someone who truly needs what you can give.
For us, this is the beginning of a tradition that we intend to honor from this year forward. We wish you the gift of warmth and health this holiday season and in the coming year.
Love,
Y & Zee
