This year, I am doing National history day...and the theme is conflicr and compromise....so does anybody have any suggestions of a topic that includes conflict and compromise in a musician's life or in the history of a specific genre?
This would be greatly appreciated, i've been thinking for a week about what topics i could do....but i can't think of any that would hold my interest. i really want music to be involved because i love it so much

Thanks in advance!

You could look into Richard Wagner's participation in the revolution of 1848-49. Liszt helped him find refuge in Switzerland where he remained in exile for 10+ years. He was granted political amnesty in 1860. Good luck!

How about the conflict between Dmitri Shostakovich and Soviet authorities over music? The Soviets condemned his opea, "Lady Macbeth of the District of Mzensk" in 1934. He had just written his Symphony No. 4, but felt he had to withdraw it (You can hear it today). Was it a compromise that he wrote his Symphony No. 5 in 1936? Or is it great music regardless of the motives?
