i think its nonpolar and thats why we need to mix it with water with dishwashing detergent so that the non polar dna can mix with polar water

and then we add ethanol to precipate the dna
but im not sure
soo is dna polar or nonpolar

The reason you mix the cell mixture with dishwashing detergent is so the detergent can break up the lipids of the membranes: plasma membrane and nuclear membrane. These membranes hold the chromosomes in, and you have to break them loose!
