bubba...Saudi arabia is only one country

2007-11-11 12:49:58 · update #1

Westerners only see what their media presents to them.
And Muslims only see what THEIr media presents to them.
Could this be a lack of communication and misrepresentation?

Haven't seen much evidence to the contrary. If you can provide some throw down.

In the United States, African Americans are still treated like second class citizens.

There has been some progress since the blatant racism of the 60s, but we still have a long way to go.

I think the very slow government's response to Hurricane Katrina was a wake-up call.

I was in the area i '91 during the first go around. Watched a woman get beat publicly for letting her veil drop. I also saw the signs saying women to the back of the bus. Not real high on the equality rung if you ask me. That was in Saudi, Kuwait, Bahrain (Sp?) and went to a few other countries. Saw nothing for me to think different.

well, if westerners would ever read their bible, it says alot of the same things. it says no woman shall be over any man. the bible says a woman cannot teach a man anything. she cannot teach holiness to anyone, including a child. she can only teach a child goodness, not holiness. the bible says a woman is to keep her mouth shut in church.

ever wondered why when a woman walks down the isle to get married, her father "gives away" the bride to the groom. the groom is responsible for the bride in the same way the father has been her whole life up until that point. and she should respect him in the same way.

if you don't believe anything i say about what the bible says about women, simply go to the index in the back of a bible and look up women or woman. it will give you everywhere it mentions women or woman in the bible. it will amaze you what all it says about women.

the bible says alot of the same things the quran says if you would just ever read it every once in awhile.

When a feamle soldire, in uniform gets in trouble with the local , because she has her sleeves up, yet a man doesn't what does that tell you?

When a female can't drive?

When a female doctor can't work on a male patient?

Those are just some of the laws I've seen in SOME Muslim countries

The extremist ones like Saudi do. But not all of them. It gets sensationalized by the media and peoples own self generated paranoia. Some Arab nations cherish their women...but far more treat them worse than their dogs.

Umm, mostly because I've been to several arab countries. Because many U.S. citizens have been to arab countries and can tell you about the conditions there.

Even in the more liberal Muslim countries today, women have fewer rights than women had in 1609 in the North American colonies.

Because of all of the newspaper articles, television reports, and books that have chronicled it. Are you trying to be cute? If so, it is not funny. They treat women like crap, and the ones who don't still think it is ok for their Muslim brothers to do so.

Watching TV. Watching women in burkas beaten with sticks. Reading about female children being killed by their families. Female children being kidnapped. Watching where females have had their passports taken so they cannot escape. Female circumcision. That's the tip of that iceberg.

Kind of makes me think they MIGHT be second class citizens.

Edit:
All I have to say is that Muslims have a really bad PR department. I liked the children dancing in the streets after 9/11. One picture is worth a thousand words (and then some).
Making me believe that they have been misrepresented will be a hard sell.

The Wahhabi form of Isam teaches that. All other Muslims especially the moderate teaching respect women with high regard.
