well I used to be pretty good against other people. But when when I played Chess in Mac(was already installed when brought), all my moves seemed useless. Is there some strategy on how to beat it?

Remember, computers are great at chess, but they are no match for humans in kickboxing!

Seriously, chess computers are good, so in order to beat them you must know what you're doing. Try setting it on an easier level, study some begginer chess books, or play against human players to knock the rust off. Then give your Mac chess engine a good game.

You probably did well against other people because t hey made elementary mistakes. Computer programs don't make such mistakes, at least not until several moves into the future. You have to learn to play strategically since tactics are not likely to work as well as against human opponents.

Avoid open positions and try to aim for an endgame where you are likely to capitalize on a pawn advantage or some weakness that the computer program permitted.

Get a good chess openings book and study it. It's easy to fall into fatal traps if you aren't aware of pitfalls in the early stages of the game.
