Curious Connie: Thanks for the great advice. I know someone who works in a casino Surveillance department. She says the same thing, don't play the machines, they rob you. Play the card games, your chances are better.

Well here goes my story. My husband and I took a hydrofoil boat to Bimini one time. There was a lady next to me who got sea sick, I immediately got up and left my seat because I didn't want to join her or get thrown up on. The only left to do was to play the slots, I had never done that before. I won! $250.00 in quarters, really exciting right? No one told me I could cash in the quarters to get dollars, so I schlepped these quarters in my purse, the weight broke the straps on my purse and I had to lug the damn thing all around the Island with both arms. I kept trying to purchase things to lighten the load, but then people didn't want my damn quarters

I've never heard of a pokie machine. Just a poker machine.
We enjoyed going to the slots at one particular casino in
Laughlin, Nevada when we lived in the Phoenix area. Motels
were cheaper on the Arizona side, so we'd get a room there
and take the speed boat across. On a hot night, it was really
refreshing to feel the spray of the water as we sped across.
I was lucky when we'd go there. But I'd feed my winnings back
in hoping for a bigger pot. And once I used up everything,
and was looking for purse change. They had the best and
cheapest buffets that we really enjoyed.
We also played the slots alot at a hotel near the outskirts
of Vegas. Our van broke down and we had to stay several
days til it was fixed. So we were on foot to cross the highway
to a hotel and casino there, or we stayed at the hotel/casino
where we were. We'd win a little and leave the casino. I think
I left with $25.00 that time. We'd usually limit our spending
to $20.00 each. Then it wouldn't hurt as bad when we lost.
We've been to a casino on a coastal Indian reservation, and those slots just sucked up our money fast. We didn't win, so there's no incentive to go back.
Only once did I win a big jackpot. And that was in Vegas
downtown in the early 60's when we lived there awhile. I
was playing the nickel slots and all of a sudden bells and
whistles started to go off. And I thought I'd broken the bandit
I was playing on. Then the nickles started to pour out. And
I had won $75.00. Then I started to play that same machine,
and two nickels later, the bells went off again. And I'd won
another $75.00. That time, a girl showed up and told me
where I could go to redeem the money I'd won. So I didn't
have to carry around all those winnings in nickels. I decided
to stop playing while I was ahead. That was my very first
time gambling. I went home almost floating LOL.

Rarely but it would be easy to become addicted. We have the gambling cruise ships here and in Germany they have slots in the bowling alleys. Like many I limit myslef to $20-30 and have every single time except one walked away with a hundred and last Christmas on the company party cruise I won a tad over $400 and quit. I get so excited if I get up to a hundred dollars to the good I quit.
I'm afraid if I wasn't kept busy with familya nd business I could easily be a granny sitting at a slot machine a few hours everyday.

My hubby likes to go to the casinos but we don't do it much. Can't really afford it. I can take $10 and play a few quarter machines and order Amaretto Sours for a couple of hrs and I feel that I have had a pretty good time. I hate loosing money. All I can think about are all the *things* I could have bought with it.

Every 3 or 4 month, the wife and I go feed the local slots a roll of quarters each, Whatever is left at the end of the roll is what we quit with -- most won $50, most lost $20 (both rolls) -- last of the big-time gamblers. Course we each buy a lotto ticket and $5 worth of 'scratch offs' weekly.

In my 20's I used to go to the race track [horses] and was forever winning! Also played poker for the rent money!

Since then I never gambled until 2 yrs ago my daughter talked me into playing the slots on board our cruise ship - played again this past summer on ship and won $1000 jackpot!

Now I'm hooked, but thankfully, I'd have to drive too far to take advantage of slots in my area, so I'm safe - for now..LOL

Oh yeah, I go to Mohegan Sun. Like it better than Foxwoods, Love the penny slots, thats all I play is pennies,. I do bring much more than $20 and I have lost it. Some times I win $100, but dont quit, keep playing. My favorite is Jackpot Party, Thats mainly the only one I play, Itry to hit more than one of them when Im there.

I've been a poker player for 50 years. Home games and then starting in the 80s casino poker rooms. I worked in a poker room for nineteen years. I've played video poker machines. I don't recommend the machines. They'll rob you. I play poker on line now. It's a nice pastime.

I work too hard for my money to gamble it away. But, the few times I have been in gambling places, I limit myself to playing $20.00 on the slots. It usually last quite awhile and gives me all the excitement I need.

Six of us play Evey other Saturday, we try and set a time limit but never stick to it All player are over 55. You can buy in for 25.00 but that's the max and you can't borrow money to play or stay in the game. Lots of fun and we play some silly games to make it interesting,
