ok obviously my last question didnt work out that well, as i got a bunch of people preaching about socialism. So here is a new question. what is wrong with helping people who need help. why is it so hard for americans to want to help out the less fortunate. I personally dont care about anyone really, from crackheads to the middle class american who cant afford cancer treatments. But im not against paying a little extra in taxes to provide health care for them, because i understand its the morally right thing to do. And dont anybody tell me i should pay for someones medical bills, I cant afford it. And for those of you who might throw the religious card and say that universal health care just supports the lazy and weak, aka sloth. go back and read the bible, look for the part about how you should treat others as you would be treated.

You are naive if you think anything is free, especially in the health care industry. Some ones gotta pay and that is where the disagreement is. It would be great to give health care to every one, but the question should be, can we afford it?

It wouldn't be free. Each person would pay a premium based on income. People making minimum wage or in low paying jobs would pay less that those making a higher salary. The government would CONTINUE to subsidize where necessary.

Right now the government is picking up the whole banana.....

47 million Americans are without medical insurance in our country because the cannot afford the premiums charged by the big-shot for-profit insurance companies. Another 50 million are underinsured.

Taking the insurance company out of the equation and working on a NON-profit basis, everyone would be able to pay something, based on income.

Those who talk about "free" healthcare have no clue what it is all about...they haven't bothered to learn anything about it, read anything about it, listen to Congress and others discuss it. They just listen to their equally uninformed friend, neighbors and peers.

workfare seems a lot more effective than welfare

if you would fix health care, please ask some of the following critical questions:

1. why do known hazards produced by for profit companies NOT pay for the foreseeable consequences of their products?

2. why doesn't the ER have access to your entire medical record when you're brought in unconcsious?

3. if you're covered by an insurance contract and a long lived illness is detected, why doesn't that insurance company have to pay for that illness as long as you have it?

4. why do some hospitals bill at 3 to 5 times the amounts they actually expect to collect?

5. why does the legal system fail to reject damage suits against physicians for unforseeable and random events? [John Edwards and his sue the OB/GYN for birth defects racket was/is a particularly obnoxious example].

6. how can thieves and scammers get out of jail and go back into the business of ripping off the public medical insurance programs? they should be banned for life from this line of work.

I'm sure there are others

We have universal health care in Canada, however because of it their is a doctor shortage and long waits for treatments. The reason for this is the government puts a cap on doctors earnings, for instance if they reach their cap in sept. then they work for the rest of the year for nothing. Most doctors don't agree with that---can't blame them so they go into speciality fields such as surgeons or move to u.s. Now I do agree that sick and homeless should be looked after, you just need a better government to set it up so the people benefit not the government.

it works in many other countries, so why can't it work in America. for it to be affordable the government needs to own hospitals and provide the care directly instead of a free market approach. this has worked in country's that spend less on health care then America dose and provide a better level of service.

I got as far as 'preaching about socialism' before I decided your previous question DID work. You just don't like the answer.
