I hadn’t gotten my period for about three months- I’m not sure why, but I think it could have been because of stress. About two days before I got it (three days ago), I started getting somewhat uncomfortable “down there”. At first it really wasn’t that noticeable- but by yesterday it had gotten pretty bad. I know this is gross, but every time I use the bathroom and wipe down there or irrate it, it’s really itchy, and somewhat painful (it’s not terrible 24/7, just when anything gets messed with down there). Since I’ve been on my period, it’s not like I have the other symptoms such as weird white stuff etc. My period is ending today, and I’m already not quite as sensitive as I was yesterday. Also, I’m not sexually active, so it can’t be an STD. I don’t have the money to go to a doctor right now either. Does it sound like I have a yeast infection? And if so, what over the counter medicine should I get? Or how likely is it that it’d go away on its own?

Sounds like a yeast infection to me. It usually starts just before you get your period . Go to the drugstore and get the medication to treat a yeast infection. It is better to get the medication that has the dual system so you can treat in and out. Yeast infections are normal and can be caused by a variety of things including medication, and disruption of for example your cycle. If this problem continues please seek medical advice from a Doctor . It will NOT go away on its own but get worse to the point you are raw and bleeding.
You are going to need to see a Doctor if no change. There might be no white discharge while your menstruating . If you have never had a yeast infection than DO NOT self treat. It also can be an allergy. I will get that from certain toilet paper, bubble bath or bath additives, soaps, nylons, coloured underwear on the crotch, deodorant pads and liners. Without first ruling out medical it is hard to tell. An allergic reaction can cause swelling, redness, bleeding , itching and open sores.

don't try and let it go away on it's own, it could develop into something much worse. go to wal-mart and get some yeast infection medicine (monistat 7). it is near the tampons and condoms. There is one that is a one time use. it's like a capsule that you insert with a tampon-like applicator (this one is the least messy and works well.
also, drink lots of cranberry juice. this is a typical remedy for bladder infections but it also helps tremendously with yeast.
i also saw a new thing at Rite Aid the other day. it is similar to a pregnancy test (you pee on a stick or litmus paper or something) but it will tell you if you have a yeast infection or some other viral or bacterial infections. might be worth a try before you spend money on the yeast medicine.

It sure sounds exactly like a yeast infection. After your period, use any over the counter medication for yeast infections. I've tried the newer ones that are suppose to work in 1 day, and the other 3 day. These have never been effective for me, so I suggest the 7 day treament. Generic works just as well as the name brand, and are very inexpensive. You use nightly for 7 days, and there is enough cream to use the first couple of days if you get sensitive again around the outside area, in the mornings. You should feel better in a day or two after beginning treatment. Best of luck to you!

first you need to be seen by a dr to find out why you haven't had a period in 3 months and while your there they will examine you and decide what the problem you're having is. contact your local county hospital they have indigent programs for people without insurance also there may be a charitable organization in your city that can help with the costs of dr's visit and treatment, if all else fails and you determine it is a yeast infection, an over the counter treatment and also preventative measure to prevent yeast infections is acidophillus which can be found at any pharmacy or at places like GNC and is found naturally in yogurt. It is also found in yogurt and you can also get a treatment like monistat that comes in a store brand which is just as good and effective with a lower cost.

Yeast infections can cause severe discomfort but rarely cause serious health problems. Left untreated, vaginal yeast infections often clear up on their own, usually when menstruation begins. Menstrual blood raises the vaginal pH, causing the number of yeast cells to decrease because they can't grow in the pH present during menstruation.
Recurring yeast infections may be difficult to prevent or cure. There are significant differences between occasional, easily treatable yeast infections and recurring infections that seriously affect a woman's life. Women who have recurring yeast infections should be tested for underlying causes so that the appropriate treatment can be chosen.

First of all... I would get a mirror & see if there is anything suspiciously looking. If you see white discharge then yes its a yeast infection. Anything else you see... well here is my other tip ok
I assume you don't have medical insurance. There are Clinics for the poor you know. Sometimes doctors office offer payment plans.

Check with a doctor. Even before using something over the counter, you need to make sure yeast is really what you have. It could be, but check to be sure. Treating something else with yeast treatments can cause even more problems.

If it is a yeast infection, an OTC product called Monistat will cure it.
