Any rotational media requires you to wait for the data you want to rotate into place underneath the heads. That's not random access by any means.

That they are memory storage devices are the only similarity.
ROM - Read Only Memory
RAM - Random Access Memory
ROM's are pre-recorded.
RAM's can be recorded and additionally recording can be done to them, or they can be erased and re-recorded.
In CD's, a CD-ROM would mostly refer to professionally produced pre-recorded discs.
CD-r, although technically a ROM, refers more to consumer-recordable discs, since the technology is slightly different.
CD-rw is more of a RAM, since it technically can be re-written or added to.
But true CD-RAM would refer to a disc that can be both written to, and played back, at the same time.
So, they all share similar characteristics, but they are not the same.

There is a different between the rom and ram . the cdrom is need of the cd disk write unlike the ram they write directly to the ram memory but the ram memory is work only or temporarily store only in his ram memory because when you turn off the power of the cpu the data in the ram memory is lost also. unlike in the rom once you burn it to the cddisk you cannot erase it unlike you use cdrw disk .

About the only thing the same is storing information. ROM is Read Only Memory. Once written on the disc it can only be read from unlike your hard drive or system memory(RAM Random Access Memory) RAM can be written to and read from in any order hence why is random access memory.

CD ROM is not RAM because you cannot write on a cd once it's burned.
