Yes, I do remember it well. The Heritage House was a franchised restaurant, and the one in the St. Louis suburban metro area was near the city of Florissant, on New Halls Ferry at hwy 270. I THINK that might have been in the city limits of "Ferguson". It no longer exists, and hasn't for at least 25 years. The land around there is being developed into a new Bus station headquarters. If you watched the national news, you'd have seen that the' Ferguson Riots ' also occurred on the other side of the street from former location, where a shoe store was looted. The restaurant is unfairly considered to have failed at that site, because the area become more less well off, and it was then too costly for most potential customers. It sat next to Akerman Buick car lot, also gone. AT one time, when I was a boy, they had placed a life-sized elephant outside the restaurant! We used to go there every week. It was a buffet-style restaurant. There were two buffet lines, and in the center, a large dining room, with a colonial style, and had an elevated seating area on the second floor, that looked over onto the lower dining room. Their tv jingle was an altered version of the "Captown Races"song,,"Heritage House for smorgasbord, do da, do da, .... " you CAN still see some old photos on YAHOO doing a search, if you type 'Heritage House Restaurant Smorgasbord Missouri " On Ebay, I looked for it, and bought a post card with the North County restaurant. Many of the chain restaurants-which were in the state and upper, southern midwest had that same colonial decor, but I do no think any exist. I had the same interest as you do, and that's how I found out all this info.

I remember it.... the one New Halls Ferry Rd.. its wasn't in Ferguson MO thou, it is near there. Went there for many years as a young kid.. always loved it.. it was like the person described above... they had the main buffet line with all the food... a second bar was all deserts. I think there was another area.. for parties where another bar could be set up.. I could see it when you went into the bath rooms.. never seen that area open thou. They had a small gift shop area near the entrance right by the check out area.. the whole place had such an 80's feeling to it. last time I remember going there was around 1990, I'm not sure if it was even called the Heritage House at that time.. I think another place bought it out. The last time I remember it actually being the Heritage House house was in the mid to late 80's. There is a Cracker Barrel there in the spot where it once was now.. its been there for awhile now. It was a great place.. one of the last of the best to go. Really sad indeed.
On a side note.. went there one night with my parents and brother.. I was probably around 12 years old back in the mid 80's.. seen the most beautiful girl in my life there that night.. she was probably around 16 to 18 years old. I'm 43 now.. and I never forgot that girl.

I worked at Heritage House during the 70's - I think 73-74 or thereabouts. It was decent food and a great place to work during college. I was just thinking about and wondering if there are some around in NJ, where I now live.

I worked at the Heritage House in Sunset Hills (St. Louis area) for several years. Was even kitchen manager there for a while. They went out of business in the St. Louis area a long time ago, and I think the other midwest locations eventually folded too. Too bad, good memories. The pay was never that good, but the best side benefit was always waitresses . . . a lot of pretty young waitresses. Good times, miss it.

Heritage House was burned down quite a few years ago and then razed. I believe daeve in a post above is correct in that Toys R Us is now in approximately the same place.
If memory serves, I only ate there once and was not impressed.

Yes, I remember it well from the 70's. The one we always went to was at Halls Ferry and 270. They have been closed for quite some time, but they had great food.

oh, I remember that place! I used to love going there as a kid. but no, it's not around any longer. If my memory serves me right (this is years ago), I think it was in the same spot (or close to it) where Helen Fitzgerald's is in Sunset Hills (on Lindbergh, just south of Watson).

I remember one that used to be in Popular Bluff years ago. It was very good. I did a web search for it but could not come up with anything.

They've been out of business for a long long time. The only one I know of was on the corner of Lindberg and Watson Road, where Toys R Us and World Market are now.
The closest thing to it anymore is Hometown Buffet or maybe Ponderosa.
