But my surname is Rimmer
Everyone calls me Mim

Gosh, you are 2 years younger than me and I thought I had an old fashioned name!! I'm Hazel. I HATED it when I was younger as that made me Hazel Nut or Nutty etc... So I completely get where you are coming from! Funnily enough, I don't have a problem with it now, it's my surname that bothers me. I still have my ex husbands name because I would rather die than have my maiden name back so I looked into it too a while back BUT I couldn't decide what to have instead so I kind of stalled. What I did find out though is that there are several levels of name change you can do in the UK. You can just change your name so long as it isn't for fraudulent purposes or you can register it with a solicitor to make it legal to use on bank details etc. You only need to go to Deed Poll if you wanted to use your new name on legal documents-at least that is what a solicitor told me a couple years back, but after all the new terrorist laws it may be different now. I thought if anything I would go to my mothers maiden name, Ford but Hazel Ford sounds like a place you cross a stream in a wood to me. What do you think? lol
By the way, Elle is a really lovely name.

i think that it would be very confusing for everybody, including yoursself, if u changed your name, that would mean that you would have to go wround and tell everybody your new name and they would have to learn that and it would be pretty much impossible, wen u were born your parents gave you that name for a reason and its YOUR name, u shouldnt change something, after a while that name becomes a part of you and u must e atleast 18 cuz thats when you can change your name, if i were u i would stick with Miriam, if it really botheres you then just use a nickname like Miri, or mary....hope i helped :)

Well no, i like my first name and i appreciate my parents for choosing Katherine because i go by Kate, and my last name is Kelly, Katie Kelly, i like when people are like whoa that's a cool name, but i hate when everyone calls me Kelly, except my true friends and this 1 boy<3. but i wounldent mind changing my middle name and i plan to do so when i get married, i was givven the middle name Stewart, because of my great-g-ma who was Catherine Stewart, before she married my great-g-pa and became Catherine (cate) Stewart-Kelly. im trying to learn to love that name because it was given to me by my mother and my father. my dad and brothers have stewart as the middle name also. but miriam isnt that bad, just go by mary, no biggie really, but i totally see where you are comming from, its just a name and by changing your name i believe you will lose your true identidy.

I think Miriam is fine if you are over 70. You didn't give your age. Having said that, it may come around again and be fashionable.............No I should change it

I don't think your crazy for wanting to change your name. I don't really like mine. We don't get to choose our own name so I think all people should have the option to pick a new name for themselves.
