I am writing an essay on this question. I do understand how the jar, fire, and pandora fit in with one another, but grain??
Also humanities place in the cosmos? Does that mean where humans are placed within the universe?

Well, tell us how you think the first three work, so we can think about the third followinf your line of reasoning.

CUz, they jar could equal how humanity tends to obtain, control, and observe. The fire could be our attempt to control our environment. In that same line of logic, grain could be equal to humanities wish to control their food source.
ALl of these are our tendancy to control our environment and livelyhood and avoid the 'bad' things like hunger, cold, and the jar as a container keeps our belongings from spoiling, another bad thing that Pandora let loose on humanity.

I'm sure you already know that Prometheus brought fire to the humans, and the gods were pissed, so the gods sent Pandora the box with everything bad about humanity and life, she got curious and opened it. The 3 other things are a part of our attempt to reverse these bad things? maybe? But there are alot of ways you could spin it, this is just the first that comes to mind.

Grain is cultivation of crops, and the notion of death -seed- planting-growing-harvest-death -seed, etc cycle. Grain is the seed of the wheat. Or oats. Or barley.
