Best vacations for families with primary grade (1st - 3rd) children?

When planning family vacations with children in primary grades what are the best subjects? And, is it better to reinforce the past years topics or introduce new areas based on the next years curricula?

we took my nephews (6 and 2) to the chicago aquarium and they learned about different sea animals. they loved it.
