When a holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday is taken, so that employees get a day off. There are other such holidays throughout the year.

It is a Government Holiday, and whenever a holiday, falls on a weekend, be it Saturday or Sunday, then the Government Workers, get that Monday off. So, that is why the Post Office, and any other Government Office is closed on Veterans Day.

Not everyone is off today. It is a Federal holiday (which is typically observed the next day if it falls on the weekend). I believe that banks are required to close a certain number of days throughout the year and this is one of them. The Stock Exchanges were open. Most schools were open others opted for a long weekend. Most parades and ceremonies to honor our Veteran's occur on that day (Nov 11th).

No. Tomorrow will be Nov. 12, but since the holiday falls on Sunday, the government (including the post office) will observe it on the 12th.

Veterans Day is one of the federal holidays that is not automatically observed on a Monday (These are, in order, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day). However, when it falls on a Sunday, it, like the other federal holidays that are observed on the actual day (Fourth of July, Christmas and New Year's Day), the federal holiday is observed the Monday following. Thanksgiving, of course, is always on a Thursday and isn't affected.

Since Veterans day fell on a Saturday, the Fed will observe the holiday on Monday. This is similar to other Federal holidays that fall on the weekend (MLK Day, 4th of July, ect.).
