Disney has had issues with the boats stopping in two different locations, and have had to ask passengers to disembark in order to lighten the load. Disneyland is planning on adding an inch of depth to the canal and building more buoyant boats. The ride is 41 years old and I do believe that they are still using the same boats, so it's about time for an upgrade.

Disney's " It's a Small World " has been in existance and operating since the last world's fair held in New York's Flushing Meadow site in the late 1960's. Perhaps there are other venues which Disney can explore which will replace the theme. Almost every exhibit gets altered to be current with today's happenings.

They just completed a re-work of the one at Disney World. Saw it in March of this year. They may be doing the same thing at Disney Land.

Although it was magical to me the first time I saw it as a child, and still probably is to kids, the ride is in dire need of updates and repairs. Hopefully they'll modernize it a bit but not change too much.
Did you ever notice that it's one of the fastest rides as far as loading & unloading goes?

They said it was only temporary to redo the ride. An article said that the rides boats were getting stuck in 2 different places because of years of layers and layers of fiberglass that maintenance crews used to repair boats. One article said it was because people are getting fatter and the ride isn't meant to carry such heavy loads. It was built like in the 50's when the average man was 175 and women 135. Time's have definitely changed.

To repair the boat system only. It's not permanently closing.
