what do you guys think about nostrodamus' end of the world theory?

I watched the history channel thing about it and I think that there are to many "generalisations" like the whole 8 spoked wheel thing?

Well , lets not disdain the whole issue without checking out the basic facts. This prediction isn't done by Nostradamus , it was done by Maya about 2300 years ago . Maya were a group of adept astrologers who predicted of such a disaster would fall in the winter for the major world (Upper Hemisphere). The only universally accepted knowledge and language today is Mathematics. So we have a task of proving this disaster mathematically. Why the number 21-12-2012 ? The numbers 21 & 12 are mirrors of each other , which indicate symmetry or justification. why 2012 ? 20 + 1+2 = 23. 2/3=0.666666666666.....666 is the devil's number. The next question that arises is that whether the term 'World coming to an end' necessarily mean the destruction of life ? ...'World coming to an end' could also mean a change in the current working system of the human life to allow a different force or follow a different way of life ...What does this mean ? ...In simple terms...the first act of the 'AntiChrist'....The reign that every astrologer has been talking about will finally come in colors.

I don't know if coincidence or generality are the right words but anybody can say there will be an earthquake and guess what some day there will be. There is a new book out that may be interesting "The Nostradamus Code: World War III"
It claims 2008 - 2012 will be world war three. Guess it depends on your religious dicipline. The bible tells that world war three is the beginning of the end when Christ will come back but it also says nobody knows the time or the place and to watch out for false prophets.

I think they had some evidence that made them think the Earth "might" end at that time, but I don't think they are accurate. I think they might have just said that to make sure that the Earth doesn't end. The aztecs had a similar theory and translated text says that dooms day will come around Christmas in 2012, but I highly doubt it even though they were accurate on other things like the American Civil War.

I agree with you. I think he had a grip on the general ideas and therefore was able to guess a few things, but he won't get the end of the world theory right, because I think it's more than a generalization. I think the end of the world is going to be a spritual transition of mankind.

It is very general. He would have made a great politician. The predictions can be construed to mean anything. I'll be long gone one way or the other. The hister thing was pretty interesting and the giant birds attacking the goliat in the east kind of make you think. I have the book somewhere around here.

You can make anything sound like it was right given enough time and leeway. I think there was a passage that talked about 2 brothers who fell. People have related it to JFK and Bobbie Kennedy, the twin towers in NYC etc.

If you think Nostradamus is interesting check out the I Ching and the Mayan calender. They both say the end is on the exact same day. I like to think we have control of our own lives, decisions, and that our lives are not scripted from beginning to end.

I agree with you, too many generalizations, in an "after the fact" scenario, you can read into the quatrains whatever you want to make it fit a piece of history that has already happened.

i actually do believe in his theories. i watched a dvd some years back about his life and it turns out he was right in what he said. for example he said the name hiser which really means hitler and when he said silver birds will fall from the sky. I never knew what that meant until 9/11. So maybe he was right in what he said.
