I'm actually wondering alot of the same thing. I know when my mother had a C-section she was wide awake, but numb from the waist down. I'm sure methods havent changed all that much. She told me basically she felt tugging and pressure.

I may have to have a c_section, so i looked this up for us both :)

Good luck!

In both my c-sections I was awake. I got an epidural the first time and a spinal block the second. Both mine were emergency c-sections so i dont know what the exact procedures are but I was scheduled to have my second c-section but things happened where they had to take her earlier then expected. Its not too bad I mean you're medicated and awake and you can experience the whole thing thru sound. other then looking like Jesus on the cross its not too bad of an experience and you get to see your baby before they take it away you just cant hold it because you re strapped down hence the "like Jesus on the cross".

They only "knock you out" if it is a true emergency c-section... where the baby must come now and you do not already have an epidural.
In a planned c-section or a c-section that the doctor has decided is necessary because of labour complications... they will give you an epidural (if you don't already have one) and you will be conscious and numb throughout the procedure. You don't see anything, there is a sheet up in front of you.

When you have a c section you are totally awake. They numb you for the whole procedure. However during the c sestion you do feel some discomfort sucj as pressure and pulling.
I hate pain and I ended up having one and it wasn't that bad. You are pain tough the next day when you have to get up and start walking around.

I had an epidural for my C section and I was awake. I could feel certain things, like tugging when they took the baby out, but no pain. I saw my baby right away when she was born, but then they took her out of the room while I was sewn up. Then I had to wait an hour in a recovery room.

At first I was a little disappointed that I wasn't able to deliver vaginally, but when it's all said and done, all I wanted was a healthy baby. Good luck with your delivery :)

I had a C Section 5 years ago. And they tied my arms down, so I wouldn't be able to reach out and feel what they were doing. They put a huge blue sheet up, so I couldn't see what they were doing. But here is what happened, I ended up feeling them cutting twice and it hurt. And I had, had an epidural. So they put me to sleep for it. But I would think in most cases, they give you an epidural unless its an emergency section, then they would put you under. Hopefully you don't have to get one.

okay. had a c section it was the best thing. they keep you awake but they give you medicine to not feel a thing. it was atcualy coaming to me. all you will feel is some tugging and pushing. it DOESNT HURT. the only thing i didnt like the IV needle and the anastetic needle. but it takes a quick sec and you are good to go. the nurse screwed with me. after the baby is born you go to a recovery room for the numming stuff to were off. no you are still not going to feel anything you are drug up pretty good still. i couldnt feel my feet and they said that isnt normal and messed with me but i was fine. i also was only 17 so believe me if any one freaks it is me. just smile you will do great.

Usually you are awake, unless, like me, you have to be knocked out fast due to complications. My water broke while I was in the middle of getting the shot in my back to numb me for the c-section so they had to knock me out and get me open fast because my son's heart stopped. He was born at 29 weeks and turned 3 in Aug and is in perfect health.

I had an emergency C-section and that i become conscious. you do no longer sense a element! and you get to work out your infant while it comes out. yet i do no longer propose a c-section. the restoration time is plenty longer and the soreness in a while is worse. you could infrequently stroll or upward thrust as much as look after your new infant. they have drugs now for vaginal births so which you do no longer sense a element! yet while all is asserted and carried out you ignore the soreness and function the cutest infant to love even though the way it have been given out.

you are awake and numb the entire time. i couldn't imagine..... being awake during surgery!!!! you will probably already have an epidural, so you will be numb already. if not they inject you with lidocane and cut you open. my mom is an ob nurse and says they are terrible. recovery is much longer as well. hope you do not need one. good luck.
