I can only find it when I just type the .com name and not www.

because you are only typing part of the web address. Anytime you type www.whatever, you need to completely provide an address (meaning you need to include .com or .net etc). Try typing the whatever.com without the www. and this should work, as well.

Some sites don't have a www. in front of them. A good example is the site you are on. It is answers.yahoo.com not www.answers.yahoo.com.

Because you omitted the .
http://www.
Not every browser recognise just the www.
You must add the entire URL.

maybe its not on the world wide web or youre accidentally putting too many W's or not enough of em.
