Call around to your:

"Cooking" supply shops as they may have some "in stock" now.
"Toy" stores--they may have them in the "toy science lab" areas.
"Teacher/School" supply shops.

As you are finding, they aren't sold everywhere. You would have to go to a lab supplies or school supplies firm. And you might not get the right size online. Ask the teacher if you can pay for it - the school probably buys them several dozen at a time.
