I am a 16 (soon to be 17) year old female. A junior in high school. I absolutley hate school, and I get horrible grades. I am really not looking forward to the whole college life. Should I consider Army or Navy? I heard they pay you for college or something?

They also want you to be educated. A stupid soldier is a dead one.

It depends. If the reason you hate school is because the teachers/other adults are always telling you what to do then no you shouldn't join because in the army you will constantly be told what to do. It's very demanding and you always have to defer to authority. Yes they will pay for college after you complete your duty. College is different from high school. Get some tutoring to help you pull up your grades and maybe look into going to a 2 year college first to see how you feel about it.

Talk to your local Army and Navy recruiters. I(And the Air Force recruiter, too.) 'm sure they'll tell you to get your high school diploma first, but they can discuss your options with you, including how and how much Uncle Sam will pay for your college costs. You don't have to sign up yet, just get the information on which you can base future decisions.

Only if you want to break your mothers heart. My son is in the Army, he is only 19 and has orders to go to Iraq April 1. When he sighed up, I thought this war would be over, but it doesn't show signs of ending. Another consideration, what if we go to war with Iran. They are more sophisticated. I hope you make a choice you can be happy with. I cry a bit every day, worrying my son won't come home...

Maybe. The army can be rough. Yeah, they pay for college but are you willing to die for a country that used 12 million tax dollars to create a pen that can write upside down in space for the NASA program and they could've used a pencil? I presonally would just not join the army. I don't think it's worth it. Try to pick up a hobby that doesn't involve academics such as piano. You could learn to play piano and go to college for that. You'd learn things like Music Theory and such and you could possible be the new generations Bach. Try to pick up a hobby you could possibly make your life! :D

Hope I helped! ^_^

You will have the opportunity to go to college once your term is over...be sure to consider the primary function of the soldier though...we are at war. Be prepared to fight.
