http://www.petco.com/Shop/Product.aspx?sku=1031740
http://www.petco.com/Shop/Product.aspx?sku=1031775

( the reason why i am not gonna get these two is because there online EXCLUSIVE from petco and shipping for both of them cost 30$ and thats reglar shipping! it cost more than the bettas! and they don't have them in stores only able to get them online)

If you have a specific coloration and fin type of Betta in mind, the best way to find them is to just scan your pet stores' shelves until you find the ones you like. If you don't find them on your first trip, be patient, and don't settle for anything less than what you want. Check all the pet stores that you can easily drive to, and ask when they get their new shipments in so you can have first pick...

I dont know about out in Cali, but here in Texas you can get crowntails at almost any petstore. I have not seen half-moons anywhere other than online, but I live in a fairly small city that has only 3 petstores (Petco, Petsmart and an LFS). Im sure in LA there are tons of shops that specialize in fish (seeing as in the closest large city to me, San Antonio there are literally dozens and SA only has a pop of 1.5 million) I would just open the phone book or do a search for "Los Angeles tropical fish" and call around.

The crowntails here are only $1.50 more than common bettas.

Okay, now Betta Fish aka. Chinese Fighting fish can actually survive in incredibly small ponds as little as, say, a rain puddle "No Joke". In my honest opinion any pet store I've ever been carries this type of fish. Not only that, but in the same little compact container as well, do to their aquatic conditions. Even Petco, a praised pet supermarket basically keeps them in these. So you, my friend, are better off either buying them from store, where they are usually sold for less than $2.00 a fish. But do be cautious in choosing a healthy fish, observer the gills and sides, and make sure it isn't sick, then vuaaallla! You've obtained a quick and easy Betta, that won't cost you $30.00 might I add.
