Someone else asked this question a few weeks ago and I thought it was a great idea for a question. The answers were very interesting too. So I thought I would recycle it. (My answer was my family goes back to Benjamin Franklin but by marriage only, I'm not a direct blood relative. )

I have a direct blood line to the original UT pioneers and the first polygamous families when it was first originated. My great-great-grandfather never had more than 4 wives at a time, divorced two, one divorced him, and 74 children he did not recognize walking down the street according to my mother's grandmother. This relative invented the measuring tool used by all the pioneers as they crossed the US in search of new lives.

I am related to a dude called Irineu Evangelista De Souza, he was the Baron of some place called Maua, my mom told me about it, when I asked her for our family tree, which is real cool, cause they have more generations than I thought. He was famous in Brazil, my grandparents were from there, they were Portuguese and Italian and my parents were born here, but my dad was always very proud of his heritage, the baron guy was related to my dad!
