I don't really have a lot of stuff yet and I'm trying to think of things to put on my X-Mas list.

This would depend entirely on what type of interests you have.

If you are interested in woodworking or carpentry, your needs would be different than if you were interested in restoring an antique car.

A basic home workbench should include saws, hammers, a workbench with vise, a variety of adjustable wrenches, several types of pliers, screwdrivers, levels, a varitey of files and rasps, socket set, miter box; Power tools should include circular saw, electric drill, electric screwdriver, etc.

Don't forget the yard. You'll need lawn mower, rakes, shovels, hand trowels, wheel barrow, yard carts, work gloves, hoses, pruning shears, etc.

Smiles; good Q. I see that in 14 plus answers you must have some ideas. Obviously some are IDEAL,,,or DREAM garages.

I do agree with a car, but I'd be happy with an antique I could tinker with. I'm not an auto mechanic; so TOOLS would be more related to what I do engage in. That list could be endless, as well as ideal.

A refrigerator; always stocked.

TUNES

A decent vacuum system

A "Do Not Enter" sign LOLOL

Good lighting.

Forget the LCD TV... The garage is a sanctuary, but also a work place.

Some might say WET BAR? The refrig. works, as well as any horizontal surface to hold a 12 OZ. can.

ORGANIZERS!

That's more than 5; but MY LIST could go on, and, and, and.

OK I'll add one more....Someone to occasionally come out to hug me; ask if I need anything...help or otherwise; and perhaps share in a project. ACTUALLY that last suggestion might help you realize any other LISTINGS you post.

A decent socket set. (Craftsman or Husky carry a lifetime warranty)

A cordless power tool kit (drill, circular saw, reciprocating saw, flashlight) you don't need high end - go for a Ryobi set at home depot for 150 bucks.

A decent shop vac.

A decent retractible ladder....something that can reach the roof of your house and can be handled buy one person.

Last....maybe a good electric chainsaw if you have trees on your property.

If not a chainsaw ..... maybe a decent workbench with drawers.

Must haves huh, I would have to say:
(in no particular order)

Good work bench
Air compressor
Fridge
a couple chairs and/or old couch

and last but not least:
a radio and/or TV

All of which I have in my garage. it makes it a nice place to hang out work on bikes or cars and relax.
( i didn't list tools because that just part of it)

If you are planning to start on your woodworking project, this isn't something you should use, it's something that you would be insane not to. Go here https://tr.im/A5Gtg
Truth is, I've been a carpenter for almost 36 years, and I haven't found anything like this for less than 10's of thousands of dollars.

Basic hand tool set with hammer, wrenches--metric and american...box end and open end, pliers, screwdrivers, tape measures, level, sockets and ratchets, assorted screws, nuts, washers, nails, tape and wire.
Basic power tool set with cordless and corded drill, bits, circular saw, jig saw, and palm sander, sand paper.
Extension cords, drop light, shop vac, tool chest, yard tools, ladder, tool buckets, saw horses, car ramps, a good 3-ton floor jack and good quality jack stands, blocks of wood and 2 X 4's.
Small air compressor, hose and air tools/accessories are nice to have.
Takes a few years to build up a good supply of tools and equipment. Buy stock in Sears now.
