Yes, back in 1962 or 3. We were one of three empanelled juries on duty throughout the two week series of trials. When we were not active on the two cases we heard we had to stay at the Courthouse, to be available if required.
Because mine was the first name called out by the official, I was appointed Foreman. That was scary!

The two cases we heard were of petty crimes but the seriousness with which every member of that jury took their job was very reassuring. It was the most impressive example of our judicial system that I have experienced.

No, not at all. As a matter of fact it was an eye opener. Most everyone who wanted to get off did. The only people who got stuck with jury duty were foreigners who didn't understand english well.

I was a juror on an eminent domain case. It wasn't scary. Sitting through the testimony was boring -- it was a lot of talk about city ordinances, codes, zoning restrictions, parking requirements, property values, etc. But at the same time fun & exciting because I love a good debate. When both sides delivered their closing testimony and we were sent to the jury room, I had made my decision to award the family $500,000 for damages to the remainder of the property in taking of a part of the property for city use. That part of the property was the parking lot, and the city was going to turn it into a municiple parking lot. The other jurors were against me and wanted to award them $0 in damages. Long story short(ened), I convinced the rest of the jury to swing my direction.

I was called for Jury Duty 3 months after my 18th birthday. I was very nervous but I was picked for 2 juries during that week. It was absolutely fascinating. The last case ended early Friday afternoon but we couldn't agree, it was a very hot day and we were stuck in that small room for hours. The debate was heated too.
I have to say it was very enjoyable and I would love to do it again.

My mom was on the jury of a murder case when we were little and I remember having to play inside because of it. that was a scary time. I had to go for jury duty once, but didn't get chosen to set on the jury. It was a case involving a motorcycle that hit a dog, I doubt that would of been scary.

I got called for Jury Duty, but did not actually have to serve. It was really very boring. A bunch of us had to sit in an uncomfortable room while the attorneys involved decided if they wanted to settle. After three hours, they decided to settle and we all got to go home. Three years to the day after that I got another notice to serve. I have to go again in December. Yuck

No, never did. After I moved from Florida to Nebraska, I received a jury summons, mailed directly to me!

It was interesting and it was a break from work. You will meet lots of other people who will be interesting and you will help decide on whether someone is guilty or innocent. I'd love to do it as a full time job!

Enjoy it this time because you may never get asked again.

yeah i've done it and it was really cool, deciding someones fate was interesting to say the least. my case was counterfeit money, it was fun listening to both sides of the story, and cos the crime is considered to be against the queen, needless to say the bloke was found not guilty! if you get called just go with the flow as it will probably neva happen again plus you'll still get paid for missing work and meet lots of interesting people.
