Loads of people stereotype people into certain groups. I.e. Emo, goth, chav, townie etc etc
Personally I think it is just like being racist. It's discrimination if you like.
Anyone PROUD to be labelled?
Or do you think everyone has their own personalities and shouldn't be put into 'groups' just by the way they dress and/or music tastes?

What's your view?

In my opinion, stereotyping is inevitable because people judge according to their beliefs, background, race, sex, age, etc. There is no way one can be completely objective. I don't see all of it as discrimination or racism (although some of it is) because for one, not all labels have negative stigmas associated with them, two, not everyone who uses a label uses it out of hate/intolerance, and three, there are actually people out there who act a certain way so that they are associated with a certain group. Everyone does have their own personality, but they will always fall into certain groups. For example, a woman will always be part of the group designated "women." It is because we are individuals that we need to have labels, so that we can describe how we are different than others.

Labels are for soup cans, thats what my friend says and its really true.
My friend loves dressing goth, wearing goth clothes, listening to real goth music and writing dark poems. But at the same time shes also herself. She dances to hiphop with me and my other friends, she wears pink once in a while, shes happy too and hates being too depressed. And yet some people call her a poser. I think its the opposite, why be a stereotype? Just be yourself, and forget labels.

It is stupid here is proof. I am in the US and have been called a 'chav" because I work at Burberry and get alot of their clothing, the classy clothing that is real. And show how much more stupid it can be. I like classical music and metal and people call me white boy or a want to be black person because of that and the way i dress. As you can see from my avitar, I am black so you can see how stupid it can be. People who stereotype just show how stupid they are.

i am different and sure i may fit some of the stereotypes one person puts on me but i still am a completely different person than you or someone else :)
different is good ..

Stereotyping is generally bad but it sounds like you are referring to high school cliques, which are inevitable. In school everyone wants to feel a sense of belonging to something and end up joining in some clique. Trying to be an individual and avoid these cliques is a waste of time because you will end up being lonely.

Im sorry not to answer your question directly but it is just my opinion.

I don't care enough about the inane opinions of inferior minds to complain about them.
