Was close except that FDR represented the USA. However Stalin wished to stand the same height or slightly taller the Churchill; however as you are aware the photo shoot was taken with all three seated. Therefore not only was Stalin vain, he was dumb & didn't do his homework!!!

Because Stalin was between 5'4 and 5'6 which made him shorter than Truman and Churchill. He probably wanted to look the same height and appear as an equal in the fight against Nazi Germany.

Stalin was a somewhat misshapen and diminutive boy: smallpox left his face scarred and pitted for the rest of his life, and a case of blood poisoning caused his left arm to grow shorter than his right; in a school photograph he appears considerably smaller than the boys around him. (Indeed, he would never cut a very imposing figure--he grew to just five feet four inches, and for the rest of his life his shortness rankled him, causing him to resort to platform shoes and other devices in an effort to appear taller than he actually was.)

The man had an ego the size of Siberia! A lot of small guys act that way. Tom Cruise for instance. Thank goodness I'm 5"5'! I don't know what I would do if I was short!

Not much of an answer sorry, but I do recall reading somewhere that the 'man of steel' as he was known, had a complex about his height and therefore wore elevated shoes to make him look more imposing I guess!
