No less than six... because if all five happen to be parallel then there would be only six sections - four bordered by a plane and two extending to infinity. This is the minimum number... as long as the planes dont coincide

If all five planes coincided, then the minimum divisions is two... for obvious reasons. Coinciding is a possibility, however remote, because these planes are randomly oriented, right?

I would venture a guess as to the maximum number... because Im not sure how to compute it.
2^5 = 32
Because each plane has two sides

The exact number would depend on the exact orientation of the planes

Dude... there is no exact answer... for reasons I just explained. Think about it, with your own mind, would you? Reading the back of your book doesnt constitute thought on your part

The planes are random! They can coincide, they can be parallel... who knows? It changes the answer.

I never gave an exact answer... I gave a range.

Debate my points tomorrow with your teacher. I promise it will only make you look smart.
