I believe that I injured my coccyx (tail bone)… it hurts to sit or stress that area in any way. (Kind of like bending a finger that was jammed) getting out of my seat is hard. =/
In case this is important to your answer, I’m a really competitive fencer although that shouldn’t have any correlation to my pain. I have no recollection of how it happened but it started last Thursday.
I’d like somebody with experience in this area to tell me what kind of treatment or care I can do to help that area recover. (how long does it typically take to recover anyway?)

The tailbone is pardon the expression(a pain in the butt). Because of its location it is easily damaged. It is easy to sit wrong in the tub, or even a hard chair can do damage, the options are limitless as to how you damaged it. The treatment is complex yet easy. It requires treating it with delicate healing. Sit on something soft. Be careful when lifting heavy object that require pulling up, in general don't stress the area. Healing can take a short time or a very long time because of the delicate area. If you are a very thin person it may be hard to heal completely but the discomfort will go away unless you sit on something real hard and awkwardly.

Try to get a foam donut pillow from a drug store or if you have some foam, just cut a hole about 4 inches across in the center. This will help raise your tailbone off the seat.
