Yes, S&H Green Stamps. I got things for the house like bed spreads, shelving, fry pans. It was great fun!

Yes, Saturday evening I drove through the small town south of my city and right past the building where the Green Stamp store was. Brought back some memories, I have a Siamese cat lamp on my entertainment center that our family got with those stamps. We got a nice step stool, a pair of bathroom scales, a toaster and a few other nice things. I don't remember when the last store stopped giving those stamps, probably the 70's when the price of groceries inflated so much that people were no longer loyal to any one store. They did give out dishes and other things at the stores instead of Green Stamps but haven't seen those offers in many years either.

Yes I do. It had nothing to do with being poor. Grocery stores and places like Walgrens gave stamps based on the total sales ticket. Some were gold and others green that I remember. Then you licked the sticker and put it in a coupon booklet. When you filled the booklets you could save up for redemption for things like lamps, pyrex baking dishes, electric skillet, tableware, gun or whatever was in the catalog for that store. The more money you spent, the more stamps you got. We had six in our family so we got lots of groceries and that store gave the green stamps. It was a way stores competed for customer dollars.

I remember my mom having a drawer just for her green stamp books. She would get things for the house, like a new toaster of something.

S&H green stamps and goldbond(?) stamps.
I remember my parents and grandparents getting them and then taking the books (full of stamps) to the store to pick out prizes. I got a tonka truck out them once.
BY the way, S&H green stamps are still aorund, but like everything else going t' an electronic version, they're now S&H green points.

I remember S&H green stamps and one that was yellow or orange called Top Value stamps. I remember getting bathroom accessories and those tv trays that had a stand to rest them on.

I was too young to collect trading stamps, but I do recall my mother saving S&H Green Stamps. I can't recall her redeeming them for anything though. I'm sure I just wasn't paying close enough attention.
