Some people say it's good, others say its bad, depending on your point of view. Are you doing better than you were 10 years ago?

I'm doing a little better, but it doesn't seem all that great, especially with prices of things like gas and milk getting ever higher.

Kind of like a famous novel - the best of times and the worst of times.
As you indicate in your question, it depends on who you ask.
If you are lucky enough to have a good job, a home, medical insurance and so forth - then, yes, the economy is fine.
If, on the other hand, you find yourself without medical insurance, in foreclosure or laid off from your job due to outsourcing or factory relocation - then, no, the economy sucks.
Overall, the economic indicators are pretty good considering all of the negative things working against it - the war, the mortgage fiasco, trade deficit and so on.
Personally, I think I'm probably doing about the same as ten years ago - I'm obviously making more money but that's more than offset by the price of gas, heating oil, food, etc.....

I make a little over $4500 a month, clear. A gallon of gas costs $3.00 When I was a young man I was making about $300.00 a month and gas costs 35 cents. SO I am doing better in that regard. Food prices have changed very little. So I am okay there. Car prices are astronomical, so not too good there. Housing is actually cheaper by comparison. I have to say that I feel I am doing well. And, to me, the economy is well. Now that is to me. How others perceive it, I do not know.

I think it depends on the state you live in. I live in Michigan, and here, it's doing very badly! We have the highest unemployment rate in the nation (almost 8%) and we are the ONLY state to lose jobs (we lost 64000 jobs since sept 2006) in the past year. College graduates are having to move out of state to get jobs. Now, places like texas, North Carolina, and California are doing great. Overall though, i think the nation as a whole was MUCH better off 10 years ago, before the George Bush era.

If your one of the 1% of Amercians who's wealth has sky rocketed in the last 8 years it great!!!! If your in the oil Business it has never been better! If your a war profitier its awesome.

But if your part of the shrinking middle class well then it sucks to be you.

At least we get to pay back the Chines roughly for the next 40 years to pay for Iraq.

Just wait till your taxes go up to pay for Blackwater and Halliburton!!!

Our economy is doing okay. I'm definitely doing better than I was 10 years ago.

They're still selling houses for $500-700K in the town where I live. We're not exactly in the middle of nowhere, but we're close.

Everyone I know who wants to be employed is employed. The biggest question on most peoples' minds in my neighborhood is how the heck are they going to afford college for the kids.

i think it's going very badly, i've been away in england for a few months and now i'm back in detroit, it's a lot worse now than when i left and the news from my friends and neighbours is not a bright outlook, but these are fairly regular people, no financial people among them.
10 years ago was a recession, it got better, for a long time but i think we're mostly worse off now, the dollar is worthless against the euro, the dollar/pound sterling is $2.10 to 1 pound and getting worse, i'm told we buy oil in euro's now so the dollar has to trade before buying, the chinese are considering dumping a lot of dollars they hold into the currency market in favour of the euro as the dollar is so weak. none of this is good news, we're not in control of ourselves anymore

Its going extremely well for the wealthy, who own the government and are using it to their betterment at the expense of the rest of us.

If you are starting to notice it now, just wait a year or two. The pain that will result from the mismanagement and corruption of the Bush regime and the neofascist movement he has led is going to be both extreme, and of very long duration.

The economy is worse than ten years ago, the country is deeply in debt. I think it's possible we're on the verge of having a big recession.

I would say it is bad... because I can visibly see the corruption EVERYWHERE in business, and where it affects our personal lives.

Most people think of corruption as being done by THE MAN... but in fact, most of the corruption comes from this countries LACK of business ethics, and they make too risky of decisions.

You think Enron was a bad thing... wait till it shows from the rest of them.
