ever hear of blowing smoke into someone's ear to cure an ear infection?

Question

My indian grandpa used to blow smoke in my ear when i had an ear infection. But I don't remember if it was pipe smoke, or cigarette smoke. Anyone else know?

if you've heard of it, which one is it??

I have heard that before but dont know if it works or what kind of smoke... I have read that smoke, secondhand or direct, can increase chances of infection.

I can vividly remember having that smoke blown into my ear and my Dad making fun of me cause he said it was coming right out of the other ear on the other side (meaning there was nothing in the middle). I don't recall which cause he smoked both ways.

My Mom; however, was a firm believer in clove oil for everything. She would warm it up and pour it into our hurting ear. Did it help? Who knows..... lol

My parents did that for me and they both smoked cigarettes only.
Don't mess w an ear infection. That is so darn painful.

I think somebody was blowins smoke allright, but NOT in your ear.

Seriously though try the ear wick thing, It is like a candle, you put through a paper plate, and light it, you need to be laying on your side, AND you need the plate to catch the drippings. The only thing worse than an ear ache is tooth ache

My grand mother used to make a cone with paper, from a grocery shopping bag, and would put the tip of the cone inside the ear...than...she would burn the top of it...yikes! Now that I think about it sound pretty scary. Sometimes really weird noises would come out of the ear (like an ear fart, lol!) and that usually took care of my ear ache. She never burned me but I know it sounds scary.

My grandfather would get his pipe going, then he would put a clean cloth over the bowl of the pipe, gently place the stem of the pipe near our ear canal, lightly blow the warm smoke into our ear. It always soothed our ear aches. I think it was the light heat.

no, I haven't heard that one, but there are the "ear wicks" a piece of paper rolled into a cone, placed into the ear and set the outside end on fire, don't try this at home kids

any kind of smoke. its the smoke that works. it can even be smoke from a piece of paper. only it's harder to blow that kind of smoke in someones ear.

Nope, never heard of it, but now that I did I'm glad no one in my family smokes.
