She's the type that as soon as she gets home the bags go on the floor in the living room and sit there for a week. Shoes go under the coffee table and stay until I move them. Plates sit in the sink. Clothes lay about everywhere. I do the best I can to clean stuff. I'm not a neat freak but, to me, if you spill something, common sense tells you to clean it up. Has anyone had success in getting someone to become a less messier person? and one that cleans up after themselves?

Good luck on this one. I've tried to get several women that I've dated to change there messy habits, to no avail. It's simply laziness no matter what they tell you. Usually, the I'm exhausted, line is the one I hear the most. One did change. I had to get on her as soon as the action accrued. She starts to set the bags down and tell her just then not to put them there. She kicks off the shoes and tell her to put them away. It seems dickish but if you don't do it now, be prepared to clean-up after her your entire life.

My sister-in-law is like that. And, the bad news is, she's not even aware of it. Her home is a literal pigpen. What's worse, nobody wants to go there for Thanksgiving this year. I used to clean for her whenever I visited. Now, I'm just disgusted, and have given up. Unless you enjoy living with someone who keeps a home like a Texas tornado, I'd say dump her. They're not fixable.

OMG.. I wish I knew this answer.. my extremely messy boyfriend is sitting next to me and his only advice was "well.. if you love her you'll just have to not worry about it.. " which is completely useless..
I try to ask him sometimes very specifically to do one or two things a day..
Like while he's cooking himself a hamburger, I'll say, "Hey, when you get done will you rinse out that pan please?" or.. "Hey while I'm cleaning the bathroom would you mind taking out the trash?" ..
It only works when I tell him directly what to do.. but it's better than nothing I guess.. sorry!!

If you buy it already broken ... what makes you think you can fix it?

Life is compriomise ... but there are limits .... Choose the way you want to live to be happy & comfortible ..... then find a partner with similar goals & directions.

Do what makes you happy ...... but it's your choice.
