PCTools products do get good reviews. The good thing is they have free versions of their products. They work great. Spyware Doctor from the Google pack is a must. I highly recommend it. I bought Webroots Spysweeper and spyware doctor finds stuff spysweeper does not. Having both is a perfect combo and I recommend running two anti-spyware products.

Its good to run two anti-spywares even if some extra resources are taken.
SuperAntiSpyware does an excellent job. AVG's full version gets great reviews.

Anti-Spyware for a cost.
Personally I bought Webroot's Spysweeper, their product is great and well worth the money. Watch Best Buy ads because sometimes it goes on sale for $10 to $15.

There are free anti-virus scanners availble. They work well. I like AVG and PCTools anti-viruses the best of the free anti-virus programs.
If you are not willing to spend money it is good to have some kind of anti-virus software

If you purchased Norton then I would make sure that you installed the entire suite (antivirus, antispyware, firewall, etc) otherwise you are not really scanning for all malware.
You will also want to make sure that any other security programs have been completely uninstalled and that you have rebooted prior to installing Norton.
After you install Norton you will want to completely run the live update program and reboot and run it again and reboot, etc.. until the program is completely updated... then you will want to go thru the preferences and set up the program.. .and then you'll want to close out of all running programs (except norton) and run a complete scan.
You may also want to turn OFF system restore until you have completely eradicated the bug and then turn it back on to create a clean restore point.
You may also want to double check Norton by going to the symantec.com website and performing a web based scan... since some malware will disable your ability to properly install protection after the fact.
If you perform all of these steps as described and are still infected then you may either want to do a system restore to a time before you became infected and then install Norton or you may have to format the drive and then install Norton.
Good Luck

i recently got something worse from limewire and now have a broken wireless card and a new OS. all you can do is send it into dell or find it in the subfolders and disable it. that is what dell will do. this will take an amature about 4 days. it also has a 50/50 chance of doing anything. uninstall limewire for good and restart in safe mode. do a full norton scan and if that does not help contact norton support on the little norton home thing.
i had to reinstall windows and get norton 360 to do anything but get porno pop ups.

From the browser menu,
go to Tools>Internet Options>Browsing history>delete button>
then delete your Temporary Internet Files and your Cookies.
Download, install, UPDATE and scan with the programs listed below. These are free programs with free removals and free definition updates.
Always click the button to UPDATE before starting the scan.
Remove (Quarantine) all items they find.
Scan immediately with #1.

Sounds like your computer may have a variant of the ubiquitous Smitfraud infection. Almost all "general purpose","all-in one" spyware and virus removal programs such as AVG, Norton, or Spybot S & D cannot remove it.
Free specialised Smitfraud removal tool is here:

If possible download SuperAntiSpyware. Load in normal mode but run in Safe Mode after turning off System Restore.
http://www.superantispyware.com/
If the above fails or part fails download this SmitFraud removal tool. Again run in Safe Mode.

Well everyone hates spyware. Now a days people make spyware and viruses so good that when you get rid of it it has another file and grows the thing again. To get rid of it for good reboot your whole system. make sure you keep the files you really want for like work or school.
