I have a friend that recieved a check and a letter in the mail stating that she has just won 120,000.00. and they was giving her 3,654.80 for her clearance fees. she said that they told her to call her agent to verify that she recieved the check and the letter. she said when she called they told her to deposit the check into her account so that she can recieve 113,400.00 and 6,600 will be deducted to pay the sponsor who covered her clearance fees. so is this a scam or real? can someone please respond and let me know so i can notify her not to do it!

Hi, Mickey. There is an old saying which goes "If it seems too good to be true, it probably is".

And this is a perfect example. It's a scam. The sender of the letter wants her bank information. Once they get it....they'll drain out every penny she has.

It's a scam. The check is fake, but they're counting on her to send a real check back before the bank finds out the deposit is bogus.

A good rule of thumb.... if it seems to good to be true, it is! If it was legit they would've deducted the clearance fee from the total and sent you the remainder without cost.

I'd say scam.....check will probaby bounce. Remember you have to enter to win anything. I'd have her check with a layer. And if it's international definatly a scam. Plus you never have to pay for something you win. Till you file your taxes!

Of course it's a scam, no one just hands out thousands of dollars. Whenever someone you don't know asks you to send them money for whatever reason, 99.999% of the time it's a scam.

no it is not real. If you really want to have it checked out talk to the bank manager and they Will also help to verify before it goes through your or your friends account.

This can't be true --- it's just too good to be true. Even if it is true, you could be getting involved in some money laundering activities. Just ignore it. No one gives away money like this.

This is definitely a scam. She can take it to her local bank and they will turn it over to authorities for her.
