Absolutely not. The only issues he makes sense on are also supported by Democratic candidates. And Ron Paul has some truly terrible positions - advocating a return to a semi-gold standard, for one (I am finishing a degree in international business currently, and I can tell you from the classes I've taken that most economists reject this as a proven bad idea). He supports free trade but not free trade agreements? How does he expect to get trade barriers between countries lowered?

Also, I think that regardless of its effectiveness, it is important to have the UN as a forum for diplomacy and discussion among nations, and Ron Paul advocates withdrawal from the UN, as well as from NATO (another important international interest for us). The Federal Reserve is pretty important, too, and Ron Paul advocates its demise. Like many libertarians, he advocates the abolition of the Dept. of Education (and other agencies) rather than proposing practical solutions to fix them and the problems they were created to handle. This last point about libertarian ideology rather than practical solutions, coupled with the fact that the Republican Party is an "insider club" where you have to play the game and toe the line to get the nod and the cash, says to me that Ron Paul will not get the nomination despite his impressive fundraising efforts.

Plus, his supporters are just downright annoying.

P.S. If you want a real candidate with proven executive and foreign policy experience as well as policies that will actually BENEFIT the country (unlike Ron Paul), vote for Gov. Bill Richardson - he's got my vote!

I am. Dr. Paul understands the Constitution, and is dedicated to abiding by it. Look at his voting record. No one else has a voting record as consistent as Ron Paul's. He lives what he preaches, and what he preaches is a great message. Dr. Paul understands that the Federal government does not have the right to make rulings on issues such as abortion and gay marriage. He realizes that bad foreign policy has cost America the lives of many women and children, and that, financially, we can't afford to allow it to continue. We print money out of thin air to pay for these wars over seas. This drives inflation up and it will eventually cause the American dollar to collapse.

Ron Paul is the best candidate for President if you have a true understanding of the Constitution....I support RonPaul and will get my vote and vocal support...the other candidates are 'movie stars' and will get the popular vote only because people like 'popular, good looking candidates'....a revolution is what is needed in this country and we need a true patriot like Ron Paul.....

Why switch? You can vote for anyone who's eligible for office no matter what party you're in. If he makes a credible case and convinces enough people, there's no reason he can't get the nomination. It would help if his followers didn't come off as a pack of barking mad moonbats; I kinda like Ron (even if I don't agree on some issues) but those zealots following him around scare the bejeeezus outta me.

Ron Paul is not RuPaul. Ron Paul is a presidential candidate for the libertarian party. Ru Paul was the drag queen.
For a sort-of-liberal I find a lot of what Paul stands for appealing. The problem is that without a majority in both houses of congress, he could propose legislation till the cows came home, and congress would happily ignore it. So you would have another four years where nothing at all gets done. Although Bush seems to rule by decree, he really doesn't. Well not much.

I don't need to switch parties, but I will be voting for Hunter, he's accomplished getting some of the border fence built, he is a fiscal conservative, if you haven't heard of him check him out, just in case Ron Paul doesn't make it.
